The International Design Award 2011 is looking for furniture concepts and systems as well as interior designs that best meet the requirements of a constantly evolving future.

The USGBC announced the four finalists for its 2010 Natural Talent Design Competition, which gives students and emerging professionals the opportunity to apply sustainable design principles to the ongoing the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. The jury deliberation at the Andrew H. Wilson Charter School in the Broadmoor neighborhood in New Orleans and the announcement of finalists occurred in conjunction with the release of a five-year retrospective update released by USGBC earlier this week.
RAMPed Up
After a day of deliberation, the jury selected two student and two emerging professional teams whose designs for small, affordable, ADA-compliant (American Disabilities Act), LEED Platinum homes demonstrated innovative green building principles and will save the future homeowners money over the life-cycle of the home. These designs maintained respect for the Broadmoor aesthetic and respected the opinion of the neighborhood as captured by the community vote, held earlier in the summer.

The Golden Lion in Memoriam Award was presented to the late Japanese architect Kazuo Shinohara, (1925 – 2006). Shinohara mentored Japanese architects Toyo Ito, Itsuko Hasegawa and Kazuyo Sejima, who is this year’s Venice Biennale director.

The Design Exchange Awards promote Canadian design excellence and recognizes the critical role of design in all types of organizations including commercial entities (large and small businesses), not-for-profit organizations, and the public sector. The Awards celebrate the success stories achieved through close partnerships between clients and designers. The DXAs are Canada’s only award program to judge design by results, balancing function, aesthetics, and economic success. The deadline for entry is September 30, 2010.
