Luke Pearson founded PearsonLloyd with Tom Lloyd in 1997 after studying together at the Royal College of Art in the early 1990’s. The London-based design studio works across a wide variety of disciplines including furniture, product, transport and the public realm and was formed out of a shared desire to bridge the often disparate cultures of furniture and product design. Among PearsonLloyd’s extensive client list is Bernhardt, Dune, Knoll, Steelcase and Virgin Atlantic.

What is your favorite example of great design?
The Mini designed by Alec Issigonis (the original version). It’s a wonderful example of inspired thinking, rationalism and aesthetics. It’s also fun and very honest. Fantastic.
What is the most memorable moment in your career as a designer?
I don’t remember anything standing out in particular, as each year things continue to excite and surprise me. Being accepted to the Royal College of Art was important as it marked the beginning of a new era in terms of my personal development. Perhaps recently it has been being honored by the award of Royal Designer for Industry RDI.
What is the most important factor that influences and/or inspires your design process?
Our ability to invent and to imagine both poetic and technical scenarios is for me the definition of design. So at one extreme it’s art and the other it’s pure science.
