Starbucks has opened a LEED Silver certified roasting plant in Calhoun County, South Carolina. The plant stores Starbucks in only southeastern US and is part of the company’s goal to reduce its environmental footprint by 2015.

To achieve its certification, Starbucks used recycled building materials and more than 75% of construction waste was recycled. The plant also puts to use efficient lighting and water fixtures, and a portion of its power will be supplied by wind energy. Starbucks plans to seek LEED certification for its stores worldwide and has committed to certification for all new company-operated stores by the end of 2010.
