With all this talk of carbon footprints, the Center for Sustainable Innovation has come up with a resource that enables companies to measure their water footprint. The nonprofit organization has developed the Corporate Water Gauge, a way to take a closer look at corporate water consumption and how it affects the local environment that supplies the company. Along with water consumption, the tool looks at the impact of usage on water supplies, the population sharing them, the geographic location, topography and watershed boundaries.

“Given the increasing urgency of conserving and carefully managing rapidly declining freshwater resources on Earth, this is a management tool whose time has come,” said CSI’s Executive Director Mark W. McElroy. Access the Corporate Water Gauge here.
